The 42-year-old, who skippered the club in the Premiership, entered three of his paintings for the People’s Choice Award in the Artrooms 2018 art fair.

This gives lesser known artists a chance to display their work at a prestigious London sales room.

Jody's piece 'Honour' – an oil painting of Spartan king Menelaus, the husband of Helen of Troy – finished top of the table.

It received 8,274 votes – meaning he finished 124 votes clear of second place.

Artrooms London tweeted: "It's official! The artist that has been selected via public votes is @MrJodyCraddock! We look forward to seeing you in January>"

Artists were selected to exhibit by a committee, with the exception of the People’s Choice category.

The father-of-three paints in the studio of his Kidderminster home and has experimented with different art styles since hanging up his boots.

The paintings he entered for the Artrooms exhibition were a mixture of classical portraiture and graffiti in a deliberate move to create a signature style for himself.

All three works he entered involved figures from Greek mythology. ‘Nearly Immortal’ depicts the warrior Achilles, a hero of the Trojan War, while ‘The Gift’ shows Perseus holding up the head of Medusa, one of three female Gorgons, with hair said to be made of poisonous snakes, whom he slayed.

Since retiring from the game in 2013, Jody has kept busy with commissions, mainly portrait work, although he has ably demonstrated his skills in other genres of art.

He has designed 24 Wolves match-day programme covers for the current season.
