The now-closed Wolves shop could become the third Costa in the city centre

Costa, which already has two outlets in the city centre, has applied to Wolverhampton council to transform the Dudley Street shop.

It plans to open on weekdays and Saturdays from 6.30am to 8pm, and 8am to 6.30pm on Sundays.

Wolves decided to close the shop when its lease expired in June, citing a move towards online sales and 'uncertainty within the retail sector'.

The planning application posted in the shop window on Dudley Street

In a statement, the club said: "In recent years, more and more of the club's retail sales have taken place online, in keeping with modern trends and the general decline of high street shopping, which has seen many other retailers recently reviewing their high street presence in recent years.

"With the lease on the shop in Dudley Street due to expire at the end of June, and with the only option available to renew on a ten year basis, amid such uncertainty within the retail sector, it has been decided to take this course of action.

"Wolves will instead focus entirely on the Molineux Megastore."

Costa already has outlets in the nearby Mander Centre and next to the bus station on Pipers Row, as well as a recently-opened drive-thru shop on Stafford Road.
