Police appeal after unattended bags spark 'suspicious package' scares forcing bank evacuation in Wolverhampton
Police urged people not to leave bags unattended after a series of 'suspicious package' scares including in Wolverhampton.
It came as a branch of Halifax in Wolverhampton city centre was evacuated after reports of a suspicious bag was left inside.
People were asked to leave the bank, in Queen Square, at around 2pm on Monday.
Police later confirmed that a bag full of clothes had been left behind by a customer. The branch reopened shortly afterwards.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We remain dedicated to keeping communities safe and will always respond to reports of any suspicious activity.
"Anyone concerned should call police on 101 or use 999 in an emergency."
There has been a heightened police presence in the wake of the terror attacks in London and Manchester.
West Midlands Police closed Broad Street, in Birmingham, to traffic at around 11.30pm on Saturday shortly after news of the attack on London Bridge broke.
They confirmed this was to reassure revellers out in the city centre and elsewhere over their safety.
