'Loving' husband and uncle committed suicide
A 'loving and devoted husband' told his wife to expect 'the biggest surprise of her life' on the day he committed suicide, an inquest heard.
Itender Singh Dhillon, of Mickley Avenue, Wolverhampton, was found dead at home by his wife Manjinder on May 14, aged just 33.
An inquest into his death held at Oldbury Coroners Court heard that Mr Dhillon had confided with a GP in the weeks prior to his death that he was feeling 'low' and stressed due to work and relationship pressures.
He had been struggling to save £8,000 for IVF treatment with his wife of 10 years, with the couple unsuccessfully trying to conceive a child for eight years.
His wife told the court that he 'loved children' and had told her to 'move on without me' after becoming frustrated at their struggles with trying to start a family.
Mrs Dhillon said: "We were happily married for 10 years but he had recently changed his job and had financial struggles.
"We had been trying for a baby for eight years and had been struggling to save up £8,000 for IVF treatment.
"He had started to drink a lot but I thought it was just normal to have a drink after work.
"There were a lot of people in my family having babies in the six months prior to his death and I think that got to him.
"He would get upset but he was their favourite uncle and he loved his nieces and nephews dearly."
On the morning of May 14, Mrs Dhillon had left the house the couple shared to go shopping for her brothers upcoming wedding.
She had asked whether he wanted to go with her but he declined.
He then told her to expect a surprise that day.
She said: "I gave him a hug before I left and everything seemed fine, he was in a good mood.
"It was around the time of our tenth wedding anniversary and he said before I left that I was going to get the biggest surprise of my life today."
As Mrs Dhillon set off to return home, Mr Dhillon asked her to go on FaceTime with him, but the call didn't connect.
Mrs Dhillon told the court that she was only 10 minutes away from home and said she would speak to her husband when she got back.
Coroner Zaffar Siddique recorded a verdict of suicide and said: "This is a real tragedy where a loving and caring husband has took his own life.
"I would like to send my condolences to everyone in his family."
