Cyclist injured after serious crash in Willenhall

A cyclist was taken to hospital after a crash with a car which closed a Willenhall street.

The victim, a man aged 24, suffered leg and head injuries in the crash late on Monday.

Police are investigating the crash which happened in Haley Street, at the junction of High Road.

High Road was temporarily closed while an investigation was launched.

One ambulance, a paramedic officer and a trauma doctor from West Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene at 10.24pm.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "The cyclist was not wearing a helmet, but was conscious and complaining of leg pain.

"There was damage to the windscreen of the car and the bonnet.

"The cyclist was taken into the back of the ambulance and assessed.

"He would appear to have head injuries and leg injuries and possible facial fractures.

"The doctor sedated the patient to treat the leg injury and after treatment he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham."
