Mystery as cat found trapped in tiny wall cavity
Firefighters helped to rescue a cat that had found itself trapped in a cavity between two houses in Willenhall.
The West Midlands Fire Service crews were called to assist RSPCA officers in Mill Lane, Willenhall, at around 4.15pm on Friday to reports of a cat being stuck inside a cavity.
RSPCA officers had previously received calls from a concerned resident who could hear the cat in distress as she went into her garage.
The rescue mission took three hours – as firefighters eventually had to cut bricks away from the garage, with animal officers easing the cat out from between the bricks.
Chris Wilkes, crew commander at Fallings Park fire station, said: “The cat had got stuck between a house and a garage.
“We removed the bricks from the inside wall of the garage to create a gap to help the RSPCA get the cat out.
“The RSPCA officer said the cat did not seem hurt and seemed ok, but was taken to the vets. No-one in the houses knew who the cat belonged to.”
The cat is now recovering at the RSPCA Animal Hospital at Newbrook Farm in Birmingham.
He is still receiving treatment and is due to have x-rays as he appears to be limping.
He was not microchipped so the RSPCA have not been able to trace his owners – but he is a neutered male cat and appears in good condition, and officers believe he does have an owner somewhere.
