Flats plan for disused office bungalow in Brownhills
A block of new apartments could be built next to a major housing scheme currently being created on Brownhills High Street.
Morethan Property Limited has put forward a proposal to Walsall Council planners to demolish an empty office bungalow and replace it with seven one-bedroom flats.
If the plan is given the go-ahead, it would be the latest residential development in the area, sitting next to a large block of apartments being built by Walsall Housing Group on the former Warreners Arms pub site next door.
The pub closed more than 20 years ago and McDonald’s moved on to the site with a drive thru restaurant, which shut down in 2004, leaving the building empty for years before the housing provider took over.
Walsall Council planning officers are expected to make a decision on Morethan Property’s application later this month.
Agent Drawing Services Ltd said: “(This) is an existing single-storey building with a new large residential development next door.
“The area around the site is a mixture of bungalows, houses and new (multi-storey) residential developments. The proposal, is to create a three-storey apartment building with seven one bedroom apartments.
“Parking is to the rear of the site with one space per apartment. This is sufficient given the location of the site and there being a bus stop adjacent.
“Vehicles enter via a remote access pair of gates to the front. There is room for a car to be in front of the gates without blocking pedestrians or causing an obstruction on the main road.
“To the rear of the site is the shared communal garden with the two ground floor apartments having small private garden areas.
“There is no overlooking issues as the new (currently being built) apartment building to the right has no windows at the rear. The bungalow to the left of the site has large areas of planting/trees to obscure the view.”
