Drivers urged to check ahead after double crash involving five cars on M6 causes delays of up to an hour

Rush hour motorists were warned of hold-ups after two crashes involving five vehicles on the M6 caused delays of up to an hour.

Emergency services quickly rushed to the scene of the reported collisions, dispatching two ambulances to the M6 Southbound, Junction 10, West of Walsall, at around 3pm.

The incidents, one of which involved two cars, and the other involving two cars and a van, resulted in minor injuries, leading to one lane closing of the busy motorway while emergency services work at the scene.

In the first incident, a woman received injuries not believed to be life-threatening before being conveyed to Walsall Manor Hospital, while in the second incident, a woman also received injuries, but was dispatched at the scene.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to two separate RTCs near to junction ten of the southbound carriageway of the M6 this afternoon.

"The first call to an incident involving two cars came in at 3pm, whilst a second call to an incident involving two cars and a van came in at 3.11pm.

Two ambulances were sent to the scene. From the first RTC we treated a woman for injuries not believed to be serious before she was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital. We also treated a woman from the second incident, but she was able to be discharged at the scene."

Road users reported of more than 60 minutes at the height of the incidents, with approximately 3.5 miles of congestion forming on the southbound carriageways.

On X, National Highways West Midlands said: "There are delays of up to one hour on the M6 southbound within Junction 10 following a collision.

"Traffic was held, however one lane is now closed. Approximately 3.5 miles of congestion."

The incident has since cleared, with drivers being told to expect minor delays while congestion eases
