There were delays of more than half an hour on the M6 on Monday morning following a three-car collision.
The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway between Junction 7 and 9.
The vehicles involved were cleared overnight but the congestion remained at around 7.30am on Monday morning.
National Highways urged drivers to allow time for the traffic to ease.
West Midlands Ambulance Service added in a statement: We received a call from fire colleagues at 5.15am to an RTC on the M6 Southbound between junction 9 and 8 near Walsall.
"An ambulance and paramedic officer were sent to the scene but were stood down by fire colleagues prior to arrival as we were no longer required."
