Tea party to mark Eileen’s 100th
One of the region’s oldest residents has marked her 100th birthday with a tea party organised by care home staff.
Eileen Bassett has lived in the Black Country and, more specifically, Walsall all of her life. She now lives at Cedar Falls Care Home, in Bescot Road.
Nicola Hall, aged 33, who used to be Eileen’s carer, has known her for five years and was on hand to celebrate the occasion.
She is now deputy manager of Cedar Falls and helped Eileen to celebrate with other staff members by throwing her a tea party on Monday afternoon.
Nicola said: “Eileen is a really character and everyone knows she is. If she doesn’t want to do something she will not do it, and she likes to shout.
“We have shown her all of her cards and she is very grateful. Her daughter-in-law Julie Dixon brought in a special cake for her as well as presents.
"We got lots of cupcakes and big 100 birthday balloons made for her. We have also bought her flowers and clothes, she has been well and truly spoilt!”
Eileen also received a birthday card from the Queen. Nicola added: “When she was younger, she loved to go away on holidays, her favourites were Scotland, Isle of Wight, Devon and Llandudno in Wales. She also loves fish and chips.”
