Emergency services were at Churchill Road in Bentley, Walsall, yesterday evening at about 7.15pm.

Firefighters had to cut the man free before he was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital for further treatment, with his injuries not believed to be life threatening.

Photos from the scene showed how the living room wall and window were destroyed, with almost all of the blue Audi inside the house.

A spokeswoman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 7:16pm last night to reports a car had been in collision with a house in Churchill Road, Walsall.

"We sent one ambulance and a paramedic officer to the scene. Crews treated one patient, a man, for injuries not believed to be life threatening and he was conveyed to Walsall Manor Hospital for further treatment."

A large crowd gathered outside the residential home following the crash, which saw the vehicle go through the front wall of the house into a living room, where it hit the man inside.

Andrej Dodic, who lives on neighbouring Morris Avenue, said he first heard a loud "thud".

He said: "I heard a screech of tyres and then a loud thud, followed by a row of sirens.

"I couldn't see anything out my window but walked around and saw all the police, ambulances there. There was a huge crowd of people as well.

"I heard the man was pinned under the car by the leg, but don't know anything about the driver."

It has not yet been confirmed by West Midlands Police whether they are investigating the driver of the car.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said 15 firefighters from Walsall, Willenhall and Wednesbury attended the scene, with the first crew arriving in just over three minutes.

"Power mats and small cutting equipment were used by firefighters to extricate the resident of the property, who was tended to by paramedics," the spokesman added.

"Fire crews then made the scene of the accident safe and awaited the arrival of Walsall Council's structural engineer. "

Mr Dodic added: "You often hear cars screeching down here. It's a 30mph road but needs to be a 20mph. These side roads aren't for people to put their foot down."

West Midlands Police has been contacted for comment.
