Members of Pelsall Ladies Choir chose the hospice as their charity for the year in September, and have so far raised about £1,000.

Their latest event was performing at St Michael Church's Christmas Tree Festival on Saturday.

The cash will go towards helping Acorns Children's Hospice stay open, which launched a £2 million fundraising launch earlier this year.

Its base in Walsall was under the threat of closure.

Sue Briggs, musical director, said: "Pelsall Ladies Choir is raising money for Acorns hospice as our charity for the year.

"St Michael's Church in Pelsall is also raising money for Acorns with its Christmas Tree Festival. Half of the money will go to Acorns and half to the upkeep of the church.

"We brought the ladies to sing at the festival, it went really well, we had an appreciative audience and the ladies sang beautifully.

"It was Christmas songs and carols, a selection of different music, it was lovely with the Christmas trees all lit up.

"The ladies choir has supported Acorns at various events, we've sung at the Saddlers Centre, the Reading Rooms in Pelsall and Asda in Walsall.

"We did our main concert in St Michael's Church and all the money from that went to Acorns.

"We're hoping to raise about £1,000 in total from the events, we've still got buckets to be counted."

Sue said the choir raised funds for the hospice, previously Rainbow House, about 30 years ago with then-director June Davenhill, so has gone full circle raising funds for Acorns in the year that June retired from the choir.
