Walsall fan Davey Drew told Twitter folllowers he had booked a guest house on the Isle of Wight - for a game in Portsmouth.

It was shared on Twitter thousands of times and read by 2.5m users.

But he admitted the story was made up to the Express & Star last week.

This week, the supporter said: "Sorry folks, I'm quitting twitter, don't deserve this abuse for an innocent joke that put us on the global map, goodnight each."

He added: "Don't think I deserve the abuse I'm getting for a harmless joke that put us on the world map."
