Driver escapes after car overturns in Walsall crash

A driver escaped serious injury when her car overturned and landed on its roof.

The collision saw the female driver of the dark grey Vauxhall Corsa overturn – landing upside down in the middle of the road in Walsall.

It happened at around 9.30am yesterday in Birchills Street.

The woman escaped serious injury and only suffered a minor injury to her foot.

Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service attended the incident but she did need to be taken to hospital.

Drivers on the roads were being urged to avoid the area while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The road was closed off while the vehicle was recovered.

Firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service attended the collision but confirmed that the driver had managed to get our of the vehicle and did not need to be cut free.

Walsall Blue Watch team at Walsall Fire Station attended the incident.

Andy Shaw, crew commander at Walsall Fire Station said: "The collision involved one young lady driver who clipped a parked on the road car and overturned.

"She received a precautionary check over from our paramedic colleagues. I understand she escaped from the car herself before we got there."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance service said: "We were in attendance. We received a call at 9.38am to an overturned car in Birchills Street in Walsall. One ambulance attended to incident.

"One patient with a minor foot injury was involved but did not require hospital treatment."
