Willenhall care home given good rating under new bosses

A struggling care home hit with financial difficulties has turned things around with a positive new report.

Manor House care home, which was labelled 'not financially viable' by Walsall Council in 2014, has been taken over by new management and its bosses and staff have been praised in a new report.

The home was rated as 'good' across the board following an inspection on March 8.

In September 2014, health and social care chiefs at Walsall Council said there was no issue over the quality of care provided at The Manor House in Walsall Road, Willenhall, but there had been on-going problems which resulted in staff not getting paid.

However, the site has since been put into the hands of new management and this was the first inspection under the new regime.

A report compiled by CQC inspectors reads: "The registered manager explained to us they were constantly looking at ways in which they could improve the lives of the people living at Manor House.

"These included altering the layout of the home and looking for ways in which they could involve the local community more.

"They told us their main priority was to ensure the people who lived at Manor House were cared for safely and were happy living there.

"People told us they felt safe at Manor House. Staff understood their responsibilities in keeping people safe and knew how to report any suspected abuse and felt confident they would be listened to.

"Staff knew the risks to people's health and safety and understood the measures in place to keep people safe.

"People and their relatives told us and we saw there were enough staff to keep people safe.

"There was a safe recruitment system in place.

"People told us they got their medicines when they needed them and some medication storage issues noted during the inspection were acted on promptly."

The care home can house up to 29 people who are living with dementia, have a physical disability, a sensory impairment or need personal care.

Manager Davinder Kaur said: "We are all really pleased with the hard work of all the team to raise standards and ensure clients receive care with dignity."
