Walsall Council said in a statement: "As part of the on-going budget savings the banking hall is to close. Thanks to the excellent co-operation from our internal customers we are able to advise the following: all payments for council tax, business rates and accounts receivable (debtor) invoices will cease to be taken by the banking hall on Friday, June 2.

"After this date the following payment methods can be used: Direct Debit: 24 hour automated telephone payment line – Paypoint, Post Office: Online at www.walsall.gov.uk - BACS at the bank. WATMOS and South Staffs Water payments will also cease on Friday, June 2.

"The banking hall will close for all other payments on Friday, June 30. After this date no further transactions will be processed. We will provide alternative payment options for the remaining transactions nearer the time."

Walsall Council needs to save £86 million by 2020.
