£9 million Walsall revamp to bring 100 jobs
A new multi-million pound development which will create more than 100 jobs and transform a derelict part of Walsall town centre has been unveiled.
Cordwell Property, which is behind the £9 million scheme for Littleton Street, wants to build a new McDonalds, Travelodge hotel with a restaurant, extra learning facilities and a cafe along the popular route opposite Tesco Extra and near Walsall College.
It is anticipated the scheme, which has been welcomed by Walsall Council, will create more than 100 jobs.
Cordwell is looking to develop derelict land opposite the entrance to the town's big Tesco and behind the back of Red Eye Jungle and T R Music.
It has said it will submit plans to Walsall Council in the coming weeks and, if approved, work will begin after summer.

The high profile nature of the site, has continued to attract more brand names to the town which has seen vast improvements along the Littleton Street corridor with the new College, Business and Sports hub, Jhoots HQ, Walsall Housing Group and Tesco.
"All of these have helped to rejuvenate this important quarter and our scheme introducing a different leisure-based offer will only improve the area increasing business tourism spend in the Town.”
The planned Travelodge hotel, which will have 60 beds, will be five-storeys high and include a restaurant.
Tony O'Brien, the UK development director for Travelodge Hotels, said: "Travelodge are delighted to have exchanged contracts with Cordwell on this important, highly visible site in Walsall for a 60 bed Travelodge Hotel.
"Walsall was an obvious choice for our expansion in order to provide good quality, great value hotel accommodation and the new Travelodge will provide this in a great location."
The regeneration has been welcomed by Walsall Council which says it is 'delighted' the firm has chosen to invest in the town centre.
Simon Neilson, the council's executive director for economy and environment, added: "The development, if approved, would make a fantastic addition to the ring road corridor - creating jobs and offering further choice in the town centre for shoppers and visitors alike. It is very encouraging that the momentum of regeneration in Walsall is continuing with such investment complementing that already seen in the town centre and waterfront.”
