Nursery completes stunning turnaround
A Walsall nursery has completed a dramatic turnaround after going from being rated 'inadequate' to 'outstanding' in just six months.
In a glowing report, Abu Bakr Nursery on Wednesbury Road, Caldmore, has received the highest grade possible from Ofsted of Outstanding and praised on the quality of teaching, parent partnership and effectiveness of the leadership and management.
The same nursery was given the lowest possible grade in November after it was found to be putting children's welfare at risk by giving them medication not prescribed to them.
As well as the concerns over medication, inspectors gave a damning view of the teaching provided at the day nursery describing it as 'not good enough'.
The nursery was rated inadequate for its leadership, quality of teaching, behaviour and outcomes for children.
Addressing the turnaround, an Ofsted report compiled by inspector Joanna Hunt reads: "The setting have made excellent progress since their last inspection.
"The quality of teaching is consistently outstanding throughout the nursery.
"Children experience exceptionally exciting and varied activities that cover all aspects of their learning in depth.
"The leadership team set extremely high expectations.
"They are very ambitious for children to achieve their maximum potential."
Asma Zaki, nursery manager, praised the hard work put in by staff to contribute towards the turnaround.
He said: “We are delighted to receive an ‘Outstanding’ judgement.
"Ofsted recognised all the hard work that my team has put in to ensure that every area of care and education is provided at the highest level for our children and their families.
"As always our fundamental aim remains to ensure that we create the best possible environment in which children can flourish and naturally love learning.
"We would like to thank all those involved who have supported us through this journey.”
The report, which marked the nursery as outstanding in every area, also praised how children with special educational needs progressed at the site.
It reads: "Staff share the manager's drive and vision which has resulted in rigorous procedures being implemented to constantly improve the quality of teaching and learning.
"Staff have an excellent knowledge of how children learn through play.
"They use their observations to plan sharply focused next steps in children's learning.
"All children including those with special educational needs, make excellent progress from very clear starting points.
"Assessment is now regular and precise.
"There is excellent communication and sharing of information with parents."
