Kristian in drive to get more boys involved in gymnastics
A famous face has been taken in a drive to encourage boys to take up gymnastics.
Park Wrekin Gymnastics Club, based in Wellington, is recognising a rising demand from boys who want to take up the sport.
In the week that it was announced Park Wrekin’s very own Olympian, Kristian Thomas is set to be inducted to the Wolverhampton Hall of Fame, Kristian welcomed Italian national gymnastics coach and judge Alessandro Monti to the Telford coaching team.
Kristian has now retired from gymnastics, and took over the role last year.
He said: "I'm extremely excited that the club trustees and management have recognised the demand for development in boys gymnastics in the region. Alessandro will be a great asset and I looked forward to working with him at the club."
Alessandro, who has 20 years experience under his belt, has spent the last 12 months coaching both men and women's gymnastics in America.
He will be the head of boys gymnastics working under head coach and trustee Christine Still.
"We have been working on an expansion programme for some time as we already have a healthy number of talented boys on our books," added Christine
"We are hoping Alessandro will be able to take us to the next level."
The Club, which was based at Wrekin College for more than 30 years, moved to its own premises at the old Charlton School site last summer.
All abilities and ages are catered for at Park Wrekin Gymnastic Club, from pre-school beginners through to elite performers.
Trials for the news boys section are open for members and non members will be held on September 23 from 3pm until 5pm.
