The young sportsman said he wanted to show his gratitude after receiving a grant from Telford Ski Club, which helped fund his last season.

The 21-year-old achieved 26th place in the slalom at the last Winter Olympics, and after a successful year of racing, will now be ranked 34th in the world.

Laurie shows how it should be done

Laurie said: “I am very grateful for the grant, especially as Telford is a volunteer-led club, so that money could have easily been used to fund a project for the club members.

“I felt it was right to come down to one of the club’s weekly sessions and do my bit to help the club who have helped me this year.

Wenty Telford Ski Club members took part in the session

"Having started skiing on dry slope myself, I was excited to meet some of the young talent that Telford is producing and I hope to inspire them to achieve whatever they want to in the sport.”

Twenty members were put through their paces with a series of technique-based exercises, followed by some fun team giant slalom races.

Taking the lift back to the top

"A vibrant evening was had by all,” said Nick Broomhill, the club’s chairman.

He added: “We are extremely grateful to Laurie for taking the time out of his hectic schedule, to attend our training session.

"He engage with our young skiers who will hopefully be inspired to reach for the stars and to strive to emulate his success and achievements in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics and on the International Ski Federation Circuit."

Laurie signed autographs and gave gifts away at the end of the evening

Telford's own former Youth Olympian-turned coach Jordan Fellows led the session, supported by the club's experienced coaches.

The session ended with Laurie handing out some ski-related gifts to the young skiers a well as signing various memorabilia.

Telford Ski club are always keen to welcome new members.
