Special constables pulled over a car in Stafford last night during patrols.
The driver was not insured to drive the vehicle, but thought they were due to their insurance coverage.
A spokesperson for The Special Constabulary of Staffordshire Police said: "Fully comprehensive insurance does not always automatically cover you to drive other vehicles.
"Drivers should always check their policy before driving."
