The Woodhalls received temporary planning consent to offer luxury camping at the Codsall Wood farm in 2017.

The permission lasted three years and the site has proved a hit with visitors, South Staffordshire Council’s planning committee heard on Tuesday.

Now the committee has renewed the planning permission, which expired on September 30, but on a permanent basis.

Facilities at the field in Wood Hall Farm, Wood Road, include four bell tents, an ancillary tent housing kitchen equipment and seating, a composting toilet and shower unit.

Abi Woodhall, owner of Woodhall Camping, told the meeting: “We have been busy every weekend since we launched with an average group size of eight to 10 guests. We have a reputation of being a great host and five star ratings on Air Bnb.

“We have many returning customers wanting to rebook with us, who nearly all utilise the village businesses such as the pubs, Co-op and cafe. Our landlord is pleased an unproductive piece of land is being utilised.

“All our accommodation is in a muted colour and temporary. We like the fact it is only temporary for six months – it gives us a break in winter.

“We have really enjoyed the past three years and have met some great people from all over the world. We would like to continue please.”

The application received no objections from nearby residents and was recommended for approval by Codsall Parish Council and South Staffordshire Council’s planning officers.

Ward councillor Matt Ewart said: “I have to say it’s a planning application with such a positive message behind it. I remember being supportive of the temporary application and I support the officers’ recommendation.”
