A5 closed in both directions after lorry fire in early hours
A stretch of the A5 in Staffordshire has been closed for several hours after a lorry caught fire.
Soon after 1am on Friday, National Highways: West Midlands announced: "The A5 is closed in both directions between the M6 Toll (Great Wyrley) and the B4154 (Norton Canes) due to a lorry fire."
A later update said: "Staffordshire Police are in attendance. Delays are likely on approach to the closure and diversion routes."
The signed diversions for motorists are as follows:
Westbound diverted traffic is advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol:
Exit the A5 at Turf island and take the 3rd exit onto the B4154 (Walsall Road)
At the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A5190 (Lichfield Road)
At the second roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A460At the third roundabout take the 3rd exit to rejoin the A5
Eastbound diverted traffic is advised to follow the below diversion (no symbol):
Exit the A5 at the A460 roundabout and take the 2nd exit onto the A460 northbound
At the third roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A5190 (Cannock Road)At the second roundabout take the 4th exit onto the B4154 (Hednesford Road)
