Children enjoy birthday cake and balloons at school lockdown party
Children have been celebrating their birthdays with cake and balloons at school this year – as lockdown prevents them from having a proper party with their friends.
Landywood Primary School in Great Wyrley is throwing a birthday party a month to make sure all students can celebrate their special day.
The school's family support worker Vicky Altree had noticed the youngsters were missing out, so arranged a party afternoon on the last Friday of each month for every child in that bubble with a birthday that month.
The children plan the party in their glass to include a cake, snacks and games for everyone to enjoy.
Headteacher Andrew Clewer said: "Birthdays parties are an important part of growing up. Children and their families create memories through getting together with friends and celebrating. Due to the global Covid-19 pandemic it has been difficult for parents to organise these parties.
"Although the rules does not specifically ban get-togethers and celebrations, it does limit what can take place – for example, a children’s birthday party would only be able to have a limited number of guests depending on how many people are already in the household, and of course social distancing rules would have to be followed."
Mrs Altree added: "At this unprecedented time, it is great that we can help parents out by organising parties for the children to enjoy in the safety of their class bubbles."
