Stunning nature shots win Staffordshire photographer national award
A keen photographer and camera club chairman from Staffordshire has received a prestigious award for his work.
Chairman of Lichfield Camera Club, Darron Matthews, has earned one of the highest distinctions available for photographers – a fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society.
To gain the award, he had to produce a panel of 20 images on a common theme all of which had to be both technically perfect and form a visually harmonious display.
Darron’s choice of subject matter, nature macro photography, has gained him an international reputation for his detailed images of insects.
Darron, who lives in Cannock and works for Wulfrun Building Solutions in Wolverhampton, said: “I’ve always been interested in photography ever since I can remember, but it wasn’t until joining Lichfield Camera Club in 2007 that the hobby became more serious. ]
"I’ve been inspired by many members of the camera club in that time, especially Adam Belcher with his macro work.
“I like many styles of photography, but tend to enjoy macro nature most, probably because I don’t have to travel far to achieve an image.”
Examples of Darron’s work depict a small heath butterfly and a common blue damselfly. His picture of the common blue damselfly won him the Heartbeat of Nature international prize in Germany in 2013.
