Car park ramp to be re-opened 'as soon as possible'
The service ramp on Cannock's multi-storey car park will be re-opened as soon as possible, council bosses said today, as they confirmed the car park itself would stay shut indefinitely.
Repairs are being made to the ramp to get it back open for businesses which rely on using the area for deliveries. However, Cannock Chase District Council said there were no 'immediate' plans to open the car park on Ringway again after it was shut due to fears over its structure.
It comes after council deputy leader Gordon Alcott said he believed the car park would stay shut.
A council spokeswoman said “Work on the service ramp repairs is continuing and the council is endeavouring to open the ramp as soon as practical – the council would like to thank affected businesses for their patience and co-operation with the temporary servicing arrangement in Church Street.
“On the multi-storey car park the position remains unchanged. The council has no immediate plans for re-opening the car park given the structural concerns.”
