Planning chiefs at Cannock Chase District Council are set to approve plans to demolish six different garage sites across the district and replace them with apartments.

In total, if all the plans are approved, 14 apartments will be built.

The plans are part of a council scheme to make use of disused garage sites while also build more social housing in the district.

Councillor George Adamson, the leader of the council, said: "It is brilliant news. We need more social housing to be built as we have a shortage right across Cannock Chase. Every one we can build will help towards this.

"We are looking at garage sites right across the district and have been helped by a grant from the Great Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership."

The six plans will be discussed at Cannock Chase Council's planning meeting on Wednesday.

The plans up for discussion are: two homes at Speedy Close, Cannock; three homes at Cannock Wood Street, Cannock; two homes at George Brealey Close, Rugeley; two homes at Wood View, Rugeley; three homes at Cornhill, Cannock; and two homes at Petersfield, Cannock.
