Three people taken to hospital after crash on M6 northbound involving 'at least' eight vehicles

Road users were warned to expect around two hours of delays following a serious collision

A serious crash has caused heavy delays to regular travel on the M6 between Junction 15 (Stoke-on-Trent South) and Junction 16 (Stoke-on-Trent North).

Around eight miles of congestion has been reported as a result of the collision, which was reported at around 3.07pm.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called to the M6 northbound between junction 15 and junction 16 in Hanford at about 2.50pm this afternoon following reports of a collision involving multiple vehicles.

"At least eight vehicles were involved, including a Nissan panel van, a Vauxhall panel van, a Vauxhall Corsa, Skoda Fabia, Kia EV6, Toyota Yaris, Citroen Berlingo and a Ford Transit van.

"All the vehicles have now been cleared from the scene.

"Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service took three people to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing at this time."

National Highways West Midlands said on X: "M6 Northbound, J15, Stoke-on-Trent, and J16, Staffordshire.

"Traffic stopped due to a multi-vehicle, injury collision.

"Our officers are on the scene."

The incident has since been cleared, with National Highways reporting residual delays of up to two hours and eight miles of congestion. 

The group said at about 5pm: "All lanes now open.

"Earlier collision cleared and all lanes are open. However there's residual delays of two hours and eight miles of congestion, not helped by several breakdowns."

Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and West Midlands Ambulance Service have attended.
