Group protest against treatment of veterans
A veteran support group from Staffordshire have joined in a national protest in support of veterans in Northern Ireland.
Rebekah Gill, who is part of the Veterans and Supports United group, held a bike ride across Staffordshire on Saturday to raise awareness of those in court for their actions during the troubles in Northern Ireland.
In total, 20 people joined in the protest, 11 on bikes and nine more on foot.
Protestors rode around Lichfield before stopping on Sandford Road for 30 minutes with banners and flags.
They then continued on to Cannock and rode through the town centre, before finishing in Burntwood with another 30 minute protest on Sankey's Corner.
Rebekah said: "We are protesting against the Government's lack of action in stopping what is going on in Northern Ireland.
"These are people that fought under orders in a war situation who are now being dragged through the courts.
"They need protection, we need more than words, we need physical action to stop this.
"We will continue to do this until this ludicrous action is stopped.
"Our motto is, come for one come for all, meaning if you take on our veterans, you take us all on.
"We are hoping the Government take action and it's not just words."
Bikers were welcome to join the ride, and non bikers were welcome to join the standing protests in Cannock, Lichfield and Burntwood.
Alongside the Staffordshire protests, large scale protests were also held on Saturday afternoon in London and Leeds.
Veterans and Supporters United is comprised of individuals who have come together to support to HM Armed Forces Veterans who are facing prosecution in relation to their duties during Op Banner, also known as the Northern Ireland Troubles.
