Boy, 16, seriously injured as van hits bike on A51
A 16-year-old boy in a serious condition in hospital after his bike was hit by a van.
The teenager, from the Burntwood area, suffered mulitple serious injuries in the crash on the A51 Western Bypass, near the junction of Abnalls Lane, in Lichfield at around 5pm on Thursday.
He is said to be in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
The road was closed for around three hours as an investigation was launched.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews discovered a cyclist, a teenage male, who had suffered multiple serious in the collision.
“He received specialist trauma care at the scene before being transported to Birmingham Children’s Hospital in a serious condition.
“The van driver, a man, was uninjured in the incident.”
A Staffordshire Police spokeswoman said: "The cyclist, a 16-year-old boy, received medical treatment at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable.
"The road was closed for approximately three hours while detailed investigation work was carried out and the police would like to thank the public for their patience."
Staffordshire Police has asked anyone with information or dashcam footage to call 101, quoting incident number 571 of January 31.
