The group of people were stuck on the ride for up to 30 minutes in the Staffordshire theme park which was busy with families during the half term holiday.

It is believed the group became stuck when the ride stopped at around 2pm.

Images from stunned visitors show the group stuck in their carriage on an incline towards the top of the ride before it reaches its famous 180ft drop.

Staff are believed to have helped the visitors down from the ride.

Park visitor Grant Jones was with his son Louis, 13, when he spotted the group stranded on the ride.

He was waiting in the queue for the nearby Enterprise ride when he saw staff working to reach the carriage.

"I don't think that I will be rushing to go on that ride any time soon," said the credit control worker from Kingswinford.

Mr Jones, who has an annual pass to visit the theme park, added: "When I reached the front of the queue for Enterprise they were just working to get the last people off the ride.

"People who were queuing would have noticed what was happening. They had kept the other rides working.

"It looked like emergency services had come to help."

Another visitor, Si Toft, also tweeted: "Yet another ride we have been turned away from."

It is thought other rides at the attraction had not been working today including the Skyride.

Officials also tweeted to say the recently opened £16 million Wicker Man ride had experienced a 20-minute technical delay and Galactica an 11-minute issue.

The park has been beset by troubles in recent years. In 2015 the Smiler ride suffered a crash which left five people seriously hurt.
