Pilot taken to hospital as plane crashes in Staffordshire
A pilot has been taken to hospital after a plane crash in Staffordshire.
The light aircraft crashed near Blithfield Reservoir this morning after taking off from nearby Abbots Bromley.
Police and fire crews attended the scene and the pilot, who suffered leg injuries in the crash, was flown to hospital by air ambulance.
Staffordshire Police said the crash involved a 'Calibre plane'.
A spokesperson for the force added: "We are currently at the scene of a light aircraft crash near to Abbots Bromley.
"Just before 10am this morning a Calibre plane came down in a field near to Blithfield Reservoir after taking off from Abbots Bromley airfield.
"The 39-year-old pilot was the sole occupant. He received leg injuries and was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital by air ambulance.
"The Air Accident Investigation Branch has been informed."
More details were expected to be released this afternoon.
