Crews battle Stonnall farm fire
Firefighters spend more than seven hours tackling a blaze deliberately started on eight acres of farmland.
Crews from Codsall, Tamworth, Rugeley, Lichfield and Cannock attended the fire on farmland just off the A452 Chester Road after receiving a call at 3pm on Thursday.
The blaze, which is believed to have been started deliberately, spread quickly through the field.
Crews arrived just after 3pm, with the Lichfield team being the last to leave at 10:40pm, before returning yesterday morning to check the fire had been put out.
A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters managed to put the fire out relatively quickly but due to the nature of the location, some crews had to stay to make sure that it didn't re-ignite.
"Crews also used a JCB telehandler, usually used for farming work, to help battle the fire."
Finn Naughton, from Stonnall, who witnessed the blaze, said: "It looked as though numerous hay bales had been set alight, with the fire then spreading to a large area of crops surrounding the bales.
"Smoke from the fire spread into the village at its height and I saw around 20 firefighters trying to tackle the blaze."
