Firefighters from all over the county including Cannock, Stafford and Lichfield took part in the minutes silence, which was preceded by the sounding of sirens for 30 seconds. Members held the silence outside their respective stations.

Firefighters Memorial Day has been established to take place annually on May 4 by the Firefighters Memorial Trust under authority of a Royal Charter, supported by the Trust’s patron, HRH The Princess Royal.

All serving and former firefighters, their families and the public were invited to join the moment’s reflection last Thursday.

Chairman of the Firefighters Memorial Trust, Colin Levitt BEM said: “Fire does not distinguish between men, women or children – race, religion or creed. Neither do firefighters, they answer to the call and do their duty! Some pay the ultimate sacrifice.”

Staffordshire Fire deputy chief fire officer Rob Barber added: “This memorial event is a unique opportunity for firefighters across the country to unite and commemorate those that have lost their lives in the line of duty.

“Crews around the county, incident permitting, took part in a minutes silence to reflect on those no longer with us, our Chief Fire Officer Becci Bryant also took part as she was spending the day on station with crews at Lichfield.”
