Amazon gives £1,000 to help pupils ignite love for science
A Rugeley school’s science activities have been given a boost after students received a £1,000 donation to purchase new science equipment from Amazon’s local fulfilment centre.
The Hart School received the donation during British Science Week as part of the company’s ‘Amazon in the Community’ programme whereby the company supports communities in and around where it operates in the UK.
Amazon is donating £1,000 to secondary schools in areas where it operates fulfilment centres, offices and Development Centres, enabling schools across the UK to bolster their science activity.
The initiative focuses on helping children reach their potential in the digital world by creating a positive environment for children, developing essential skills in literacy and science, technology, engineering and math and empowering young people into the right career.
To celebrate the donation, members of the local Amazon team visited the school and took part in a science class with students from Year 8 students.
Speaking on the donation, Amazon’s Rugeley General Manager, Scott Wharton said: “Science, technology, engineering and maths are some of the core skills used in a multitude of careers today, including those at Amazon.
"We’re really passionate about encouraging young people to consider a future career in these disciplines and when the opportunity came up to support such a great local school with a donation, we jumped at the chance.
"British Science Week is a great initiative and we wanted to help make it extra special for the students at The Hart School.”
Principal, Chris Keen from The Hart School added: “British Science Week is something that our students really enjoy and to receive this donation from Amazon has been fantastic.
"At The Hart School we are always keen to make learning exciting for our students so we’re grateful to Amazon for helping us do just that during British Science Week.
"I would like to say a big thanks to Scott and his team from Amazon in Rugeley for their support.”
