The incident happened at the Staffordshire attraction yesterday at 5.45pm.

The man suffered minor injuries, and was discharged from hospital last night.

He had been working for Kettle & Talbot, operating a plant vehicle when it happened.

Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the incident. An air ambulance was also called.

The Health and Safety Executive was informed of the incident, and is now investigating, a spokesman confirmed this morning.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a 21-year-old man who said he had been run over by a dumper truck on a building site.

“Ambulance staff assessed and treated him for leg and hip injuries before he was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

“Thankfully, the man’s injuries are not believed to be serious.”

A spokesman for Kettle & Talbot said: "We can confirm that yesterday evening an incident occurred at our construction site at Alton Towers.

"An employee of Kettle & Talbot suffered minor injuries whilst operating a plant vehicle.

"Police and ambulance services arrived on the scene and a man was taken to hospital as a precaution. He has since been discharged with bruising and is now back at work.

"Kettle & Talbot have now launched a full investigation into the matter."

A police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of an injury sustained by a workman on site at Alton Towers yesterday and attended at around 5:45pm.

"We understand the man was later discharged from hospital with minor injuries and the incident is now in the hands of the Health and Safety Executive."

The park is not currently open to the public.
