Shifnal couple celebrate 73 years of marriage after meeting at engineering firm
A Shropshire couple who met while working at an engineering business in Wolverhampton have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.
June, 93, and George Gee 94, celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on Saturday at their home in Shifnal.
The couple met 80 years ago at Henry Meadows Engineering, in Wolverhampton, when June was working as a typist and George as an apprentice draughtsman.
George’s father was working for Great Western Railway at the time and the pair nearly got separated when George’s father took a job in Cornwall.
However, they fought to stay together and got married at Holy Trinity Church in Wolverhampton on September 9, 1950. It was a rainy day but that didn’t matter as they were in love.
Over the years they have lived in Tettenhall, Bilbrook, Horsehay where they ran a shop, Shifnal, Penryn, back to Wolverhampton, before settling back in Shifnal nearly 40 years ago.
