Funnyman Russell Kane launches new pet book for Wolverhampton school pupils
Pupils from Wolverhampton schools were given a fun lesson in how to show love and respect when award-winning funnyman Russell Kane paid a visit.
The animal-loving author, TV and podcast presenter was in the town to mark the launch of his new book titled 'Pet Selector' which includes stories about his own mischievous pets and an interactive animal matching game.
Pupils from a number of schools attended the special event held at Wolverhampton Grammar School. These were Bantock Primary School, St John’s Catholic Primary School, Merridale Primary School' St Peter's Collegiate Academy, Penfield Primary School and Perton Middle School in Perton.
The event at the Compton Road campus was organised in partnership with writer network Authors Aloud UK and publisher The Quarto Group. Russell read excerpts for his new book and took part in a question and answer session with the pupils.
"I’ve learned so much from my pets over the years – I’ve lived with everything from Burmese and Ragdoll cats to Cocker Spaniels and Stick Insects and let me tell
you each of them had distinct banter - and yes I did used to laugh and joke with my stick insect called Rambo. But seriously, choosing a pet is about finding a match based on personality, not just looks or trends. Pets are more
than just animals – they’re family,” Russell says.
The school's head librarian Zoe Rowley says: "As part of our work to ensure that all children are inspired to read, we were delighted to work in partnership with Authors Aloud UK and Quarto Group to enable Russell to meet hundreds of schoolchildren from across Wolverhampton today. Russell’s visit ensured that children left the event with many happy memories, an enthusiasm for reading and lots of information linked to pet care.’
Russell was the winner of the Best Comedy Show award at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2010. He also presented ITV's I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here – Now in 2009 and made appearances in 2010 and 2011.
