Donovan Brown has been found guilty of the rape of a female over 16 years of age following a trial held at Birmingham Crown Court.

The 38-year-old will be sentenced at the same court on April 25.

Brown had picked up the woman, who had been heavily drinking, following a night out in West Bromwich on the evening of August 3 last year, and, despite the woman asking Brown to take her home, he took her back to his address in Perry Barr and raped her.

The woman woke up at his home on the morning of August 4 to find Brown raping her.

He then dropped her back to where he picked her up from, and she reported the attack to police.

West Midlands Police started its investigations and managed to secure CCTV which showed Brown with the woman.

It then mapped the journey he took with her to his address and officers arrested Brown just days later.

The force said that her 'true and consistent' account of what happened, and Brown’s changing version of events, led to his conviction.

DC Daniel Folley, from the public protection unit, said: “Due to the brave actions of this woman in coming forward we were able to secure a conviction for a dangerous individual who took advantage of her vulnerabilities whilst she was on a night out.

"We hope her bravery encourages other people subjected to sexual abuse to come forward.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "It is important to note that survivors of sexual assault are protected by law and have life-long anonymity.
