West Bromwich homes development at risk as firm ceases trading
The future of a major housing development in West Bromwich is hanging in the balance after the property developer asked to be struck off as a trading company.
Aurora Living Ltd won planning permission for 238 homes on land off Hall Green in August this year after a number of previous attempts to redevelop the site fell through.
The firm and an associated company, Mar City Ltd, asked Companies House to strike it off its list of registered businesses.
The move leaves prospects for the West Bromwich development in doubt while it is decided what will happen to the company’s assets.
Planning permission was granted despite objectors complaining Aurora Living hadn’t begun work on permission granted in 2016.
Assuring councillors the development would go ahead, the planning committee was told the delay was due to remediation work to remove chemicals and oils from the former industrial site.
An agent for the firm said that it was expected to be completed in 2026.
The Solihull-based company’s website shows it has four other developments in Wednesbury, Perry Barr, Tipton and Smethwick.
Residents of the Alexandra Grange estate in Tipton only learned of the company’s financial situation when contractors carrying out highways work told them the firm had ceased trading.
In January this year residents of a development in Bloxwich complained the company hadn’t completed work on roads and street lighting six years after houses were built.
After discussions with Walsall Council the work was finished in October.
