Kermarni Watson Darby was aged three when he died in West Bromwich.
A devastated father says he is desperate for answers about what happened to his 'funny' and 'cheeky' son whose death sparked a murder investigation.
Three-year-old Kermarni Watson Darby died after being found unresponsive at his home in West Bromwich.
Two people were arrested on suspicion of murder but were subsequently released as police continued their investigation. No-one has been charged more than six months after Kermarni's death.
His father Darren Darby, 30, who was not living with his son, says he is desperate for answers about what happened.
Mr Darby, a former National Express bus driver, said he was left 'distraught' when he was told Kermarni had died and recalled the last time he saw him at his daughter's birthday party.
He said: "The first I heard of it, I was working that day, was when I had a phone call to say he wasn't breathing. I then went to the hospital.
"I had to leave my job, I was distraught. He was a healthy baby, strong and young and now I was being told he had stopped breathing.
"When I saw the police I knew it was bad."
Mr Darby, who has four other children. said he only has happy memories of Kermarni.
He said: "He was really boisterous, funny and cheeky. If he was here now he would probably jump on you.
"The last time I saw him was on my daughter's birthday in May. I used to see him three or four times a week after work.
"My daughter had a spa day, her friends from school came round and there was a bouncy castle. He was bouncing around, he was fine."
Mr Darby says the police have been in regular contact regarding the investigation into Kermarni's death and that he hopes they will be able to deliver answers as to what happened.
Paramedics were called to the family home in Beacon View Road on June 5 last year. A 28-year-old man and 27-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder but released.
West Midlands Police said there were no updates but that the investigation was ongoing.
Mr Darby now lives in Smethwick having split from his mother two years ago.
The desperate father added: "I want to know what's going on."
