Person dies after being hit by train at Dudley Port railway station
A person died after being hit by a train in one of two emergencies on the Black Country transport network this afternoon.
Rail and West Midlands Metro services were disrupted throughout the afternoon after one person was hit by a train and another was hit by a tram.
Emergency services were called to Dudley Port railway station at around 1.40pm today.
British Transport Police confirmed a person had died at the scene after being hit by a train.
The force said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
Trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street were diverted as a result of the incident, leading to cancellations and delays of around 20 minutes.
Trains were unable to stop at Dudley Port while emergency services dealt with the incident until the line returned to normal at around 5.30pm.
In a separate earlier incident a woman was struck by a West Midlands Metro tram at the Kenrick Park stop in West Bromwich at around 11.40am.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said the woman suffered 'very serious' injuries' and was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.
The Midlands Air Ambulance was called but the woman was taken to hospital by road.
Trams were unable to pass through the station while emergency services attended and shuttle trams were put on, running between Grand Central and The Hawthorns stops and between Wolverhampton and West Bromwich Central stops.
Trams started travelling across the entire Grand Central to Wolverhampton line several hours later but services were not expected to be running as scheduled again until later in the evening.
A West Midlands Metro spokesperson confirmed a full investigation is now taking place.
