Landmark West Bromwich office block to be demolished
A tired and out-of-date office block in West Bromwich has been approved for demolition to start in March.
Sandwell Council is planning to demolish Shaftesbury House, on West Bromwich High Street, and redevelop the site.
Councillor Paul Moore, cabinet member for regeneration, said: "This disused office block is surplus to the council's requirements and is not suitable to be refurbished.
"The council has taken the decision to demolish the building and clear the site for redevelopment.
"This is part of an ongoing programme to deal with several redundant council-owned properties and sites in West Bromwich which are no longer needed for operational use.
"These include the former gas showroom, also on the High Street, and the multi-storey car park in the town centre."
The building previously housed the council's education offices.
