Ambulance on 999 call overturns near Sandwell General Hospital
An ambulance that was on it way to a 999 call overturned after colliding with a car near Sandwell General Hospital today.
The vehicle came to rest on a pedestrian crossing on All Saints Way, West Bromwich, shortly before 10.15am.
Bosses confirmed it was was en route to a 999-call using blue lights and sirens when the collision happened.
A second ambulance was sent to respond to the original 999 call.
Three paramedic officers and an ambulance were immediately sent to the scene of the collision and, upon arrival, found the ambulance on its side.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The driver of the car, a man, suffered minor injuries and was treated by ambulance staff on scene before being taken to nearby Sandwell Hospital for further checks.
“The two paramedics, who had managed to get out of the overturned vehicle, were assessed by their ambulance colleagues and were treated for minor injuries and the effects of shock before being taken to the same hospital as a precaution.
“The CCTV footage from the ambulance will be provided to the police and the Trust will be working closely with West Midlands Police to establish what happened.”
By 2pm the ambulance had been removed and All Saints Way was clear.
