Gas smell that shut Tipton school remains a mystery
Investigations are continuing into a ‘gas-like smell’ which forced a school to close its doors early.
Parents of Wednesbury Oak Academy students were called in to pick them up several hours earlier than usual following reports of a gas leak on Monday.
But the cause for concern is still under investigation after an inspection carried out by Cadent Gas Ltd, which received 400 calls reporting a gas-like smell over Tipton and Birmingham, only uncovered a trace of gas in two properties.
Experts say the gas trace found during the inspection ‘would not have caused such a widespread smell’ and that the smell is not linked to their gas network.
The academy confirmed it had opened as usual today.
