Hagley Road junction blocked after man injured in crash

A crash on a busy road has left a man with serious injuries.

Emergency services were called to Hagley Road West, in Bearwood, close to The Kings Head pub.

The crash happened at around 1.40pm on Monday.

The man, a pedestrian, was struck by a lorry, say West Midlands Ambulance Service.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesman said: "When ambulance crews arrived, they found a middle-aged man who had suffered very significant injuries.

“The man was treated at the scene by ambulance staff."

He was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.

Chief Inspector Jack Hadley, of West Midlands Police, warned motorists to avoid the area.

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford was sent to the scene but the patient was taken by road to the hospital.West Midlands Police said: "The male pedestrian has suffered serious injuries and the road is currently closed to traffic heading out of the city centre."

Hagley Road West is now open into Birmingham but motorists cannot turn right into Lordswood Road.

However the route out of the city approaching Bearwood is closed and is expected to be for some time.
