£1 million development at Oldbury care home
A £1 million development to add 12 new beds and additional 'home-from-home comforts' at an Oldbury care centre is set to be opened this week.
The investment at the family-run Newbury Manor in Newbury Lane will create up to 20 jobs and takes the bed capacity to 56.
The new wing also includes two extra lounges – one with a quiet area, TV leisure suite with WiFi, hairdressing and beauty salon, landscaped garden and additional outdoor seating areas and landscaping within the grounds.
It will be opened this Saturday (JUN 11) at 11am as the National Care Homes Open Day celebrations get into full swing.
Mayor of Sandwell Councillor Ahmadul Haque MBE will be joining in the opening of the facilities as part of a national initiative involving thousands of care homes across the UK to showcase care excellence to communities.
Home manager, Diane Williams, said: “We’re offering an opportunity for people to see our philosophy of care in action and that has involved investing in the future.
“Despite the numerous negative headlines about social care funding and businesses in the sector struggling to be future-proof, we’re bucking the trend and investing heavily in delivering high quality, dignified care to the community.
“All our bedrooms are en-suite and we believe the additions to this purpose-built facility offers some practical home-from-home comforts where our residents can watch streamed films on our smart TV, keep in touch with family and friends through Skype, get a proper beauty make-over and relax in our lounges and garden terraces.
In a fresh marketing drive 'to get the message out there that compassionate and high quality care still exists' the company has launched a new website, added Mrs Williams.
The Newbury Manor open day will offer a relaxed environment where those seeking residential or nursing care for loved-ones can see what’s on offer in a day-to-day working environment.
It stands in its own grounds and there is a large car park facility at the front. The garden surrounds three sides of the home with access from the main lounge. There is a lawn and paved patio area which provides a safe and attractive seating area for the residents.
The home is part of the Superior Care (Midlands) group.
An additional open day on Friday (JUN 9) has been arranged for care industry professionals, authority commissioning officers and social workers.
The home is registered for elderly care and for younger adults with profound disabilities.
