Oldbury is now the seat of local government for the borough as home of Sandwell Council’s headquarters. Shaped by its ties with Langley and Warley, Oldbury was involved in production of armaments in both world wars. Its town centre changed dramatically in recent years with the creation of the council house, off Freeth Street, a supermarket, retail park and library building dedicated to the memory of songwriter Jack Judge who penned It's a Long, Long Way to Tipperary. Comedian Frank Skinner was also brought up in the town.
