Police name suspect in Great Barr 'hit and run' which injured mother and new-born baby

Police investigating an alleged hit and run involving a mother and her newborn baby have named a suspect.

They have also released a picture of 32-year-old Andrew Rose who they believe left the scene of the crash in Great Barr on foot.

Officers allege he left behind a blue Mazda MPS Aero Sports car that hit the 28-year-old mother and her four-day-old child on the A34 Walsall Road at 6pm on September 23.

Mr Rose, who is known to frequent Aston and Walsall, is described as being around 6ft 8in tall, heavily built, with brown eyes, a black beard and moustache.

Anyone who sees Mr Rose or know of his whereabouts should not approach him – but call police urgently on 999.

Both mother and baby have since been discharged from hospital and are continuing to recover at home.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes, from Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We urgently need to speak to this man and I would like to appeal to him directly to hand himself into police.

“We have trawled CCTV in the area and visited a number of addresses known to Andrew in our search for him.

“If anyone has any information about where Andrew may be, or saw what happened in the area at the time, please contact us as soon as possible."
