Sandwell Conservative believes borough will be next clean air zone battleground
Sandwell Conservatives believe the borough will be the next battleground over clean air zones which could see motorists charged.
Princes End Conservative councillor, Archer Williams, has penned a letter to Sandwell Council leader Kerrie Carmichael demanding answers after residents were invited to take part in paid workshops about pollution.
However, Sandwell leader Councillor Kerrie Carmichael has denied the borough will be introducing any major anti pollution schemes.
She said: "We do not currently have any plans to implement any LTN or ULEZ initiatives in Sandwell."
Marketing company I2media offered residents £20 to give their views about clean air policies, like the ULEZ charges in London and the Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in Kings Heath.
Councillor Williams told the Express & Star: "The council have already commissioned EarthSense to monitor our air quality within Sandwell and have made a start with their Active Travel project - so it's clear which direction they are moving in."
